Written by Glazier Football | Dec 4, 2024 12:40:33 PM

Trey Brooks, HC at Rockwall HS (TX) discusses their successful screen game, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the downhill run game, throwing screens to good players, and executing fast screens with precise timing and effective blocking.

Fast screens, when executed with precision, can transform perimeter plays into a downhill running attack that keeps defenses guessing and off-balance.

This video excerpt is from Coach Brooks' Screen Game out of a Spread Offense clinic.  You can view that entire clinic on Glazier Drive.

Keys to Screen Success:

  • Throw them to good players.
  • Certain players have a knack for running them
  • Don't feel bound to throw every screen in every direction.
  • Consistency in blocking schemes and techniques.   That way it carries over from week to week.
  • They have a daily practice period called team screens.
  • They use scout team and assistant coaches to give the offense realistic game-like looks to practice against.

In addition to the fast/swing screens shown in the video, they run jailbreak screens and slow screens.

9% of their offense is screen passes.
