Tight Ends Need to be both jacks of all trades and masters of all trades.  You can't have a great ground game without having great blocking tight ends.

Justin Burke is the Offensive Coordinator at the University of Texas at San Antonio, shows you some of the drills he uses for leverage and explosiveness.

TE Run Game Fundamentals & Drills is a 40 minute clinic with several more drills. Coach Burke goes into de[pth on stance, blocking attitude, and technique along with more on Tight End blocking  footwork.

The Role of a Tight End

Football is a mentally and physically demanding game.  All positions in football combine a level of mental and physical strength in order to perform at their best.

There is no other position in football where the ability to mentally and physically perform is more challenging than that of the Tight End. No other position must learn and execute every aspect of football.  A Tight End must run block.  A Tight End must pass protect.

A Tight End must shift and motion.  A Tight End must run great routes.  A Tight End must catch and score.  A Tight End must play special teams.  A Tight End must be the master of all trades!
