If you can line up on defense and stop the run, you give yourself a chance to win.

Coach Scott Goolsby, Defensive Coordinator, Auburn (AL) High School takes us through how he teaches his defense to use their vision and his 3 Levels terminology to accomplish that.

The excerpt below is a part of his presentation on: Defending Gap Scheme Runs with the Auburn High 4-2-5 Defense.  You can access that entire clinic on Glazier Drive.

We all know football is hard.  The Coaches at AHS have expectations of the players. At the same time the coaches want to make the game fun for the players.

They want to be known as a gritty team that plays with toughness, is competitive, and are ready for a fight.

Defensive Mantra:

Play the next play with unrelenting, EFFORT & TOUGHNESS, focusing on your ALIGNMENT & ASSIGNMENT, and dominating your opponent with TECHNIQUE.

Non-Negotiables

Clear communication--On and off the field

Consistent effort regardless of situation--effort based defense

Be coachable (coach/player and player/player)

Team first mentality
