The presenter is Dave Christensen, retired offensive line coach. He has been with 16 professional and college teams. His Offensive Line Training System (49 Lessons on offensive line play) is available on Glazier Drive.
This video segment is from the lesson on O-Line "Vertical Sets" Dropback Technique.
Vertical set is a technique used by tackles. They will kick back off their inside foot. Kick & Drag. We want them to keep their shoulders as "square" as possible.
They want 60% of their weight on their inside foot. They should push off their inside toe of their inside foot so that they can kick back off the backside leg.
The lineman must stay square as long as they can. As they gain depth and the end's coming out wide, they will eventually start opening their shoulders so that they will be 45 to the defender.
By staying square when the defender takes an inside move, they are able to close him down. They are also in a position to switch off a twist by the DLine.
The vertical set gains some width. We don't want to slide out to the player, but rather gradually gain the width as they kick, slide.
