Pocket Protection Perfected: 'Magic' Man Blocking Adjustment - Luke Meadows

Solid pass protection is crucial for offensive success. The 'Magic' Man protection adjustment offers a versatile solution to counter various blitz packages and stunts. This video breaks down how to implement this protection scheme.

The presenter is Luke Meadows, Offensive Line Coach, Northern Illinois.

Coach Meadows has an offensive line system on Glazier Drive with 25 videos. The video below was taken from O-Line Man Protection Scheme.

Some comments from Coach Meadows on the scheme
We use it when we don't have anyone to slide to.

For instance, if the mic is head up on the center, we can’t slide in the direction of the mic. In situations like this, if we’re concerned about the mic crossing face, we can check to magic.

The word "magic" has five letters, which signifies we are blocking the four down linemen and the mic. This turns into man-to-man blocking, where each player is responsible for an assigned defender.

To signal magic, the center extends his hand, and the guards can do the same. The center will declare the mic, saying something like "Magic 11" if the linebacker’s jersey number is 11.

The center focuses on the mic while the right guard blocks the three-technique, the right tackle takes the defensive end, the left guard covers the D-tackle, and the left tackle handles the other defensive end.

In this scheme, the running back is responsible for the two outside linebackers, and the quarterback has to watch for pressure from the outside linebackers as well.
