You're extra point, field goal, and punt protection are often only as good as your long snapper.  Working with your long snapper to increase the velocity of the snap can allow you that extra fraction of a second to get a good kick away.

In this video, Chris Highland, former NFL long snapper, and currently a snapping instructor with Kohl's Kicking Camp gives you some actionable tips to help with your long snap velocity.

The video is a portion of his entire clinic on How to Improve Snapping Velocity in High School on Glazier Drive.

Coach Highland is also a high school sperical team's coordinator in addition to his work with Kohl's Kicking Camp.

In addition to working on velocity, some things you need to look at and evaluate are:

  • Your scheme.  Is it 13/14/15 yards?
  • Where is the block point?

There is no quick fix, improvement takes a lot of technically sound and coaches reps.

Strength and conditioning is an important part of long snap velocity because a part of the process includes violent, intricate movements.  These movements can be improved with specific strength and conditioniong exercises.

  • Stretching--how much, how often, posterior chain
  • Explosive Movements--hang cleans, power cleans, push press
  • Grip Strength--A lot of snapping is hips and hands
