Brian Nix, Head Coach, Alcoa High School (TN) shows you some schemes and calls for how to get off the field when needing to cover 3rd and long.

π Their dime defensive back is their next best DB regardless of position. In these calls, it is best when that player is a safety.
π Dime is good for them because it allows them to play Tampa 2 coverage along with hard corners, but their players don't have to carry 2 in the seam.
π This allows them to get a middle of the field player to either play in the middle of 2 receivers, in between 2 and 3, or assign him to one side
π One side will then play either quarters or 2 carry and the other side will play cover 2. It takes the pressure off the outside linebacker to cover the have to cover the deep route.
πIf the middle of the field player's cover does not go vertical, he defends the stick.
πIn addition to the rules for the secondary, they almost always include a line game as well.
π The inside linebacker will wait for a 2 count for any type of screen. Their objective is to force the quarterback out of the pocket with their line game, then they will blitz the linebacker.
