Create defensive chaos by mastering spacing concepts. By strategically positioning your receivers and understanding how to manipulate defenders' responsibilities, you can consistently force the defense to make impossible choices. In this video, we'll break down the spacing concepts that can help you keep the chains moving.

The clinician is Will Stein.  At the time this video was filmed, he was the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Texas San Antonio.  He currently holds those same positions at Oregon.

The video is a part of his Glazier Drive presentation: 3 & 4 Man Spacing Concepts out of a Multiple Formation Spread Offense.

What is a spacing concept?

  • Route concept that is designed to horizontally stretch the flat defender and hook defender in zone coverage at the second level

  • Each route is between 6-8 yards apart from each other

  • Typically run with a single WR isolation route or a coverage beater backside

  • We categorize it as a "full field read" with quick game timing• It can be read IN/OUT or OUT/IN depending on the side you start

  • We will protect using either Gap protection or Scat Protection

  • When in doubt play the foundation.

  • Summary--you have a one on one--typically to the boundary, but it doesn't have to be, and there is a foundational read away from the one on one.  If there is a one on one, play it.
