Are you a head coach or defensive coordinator looking to add more pressure while minimizing risk? In this video, we dive deep into pressure packages that create turnovers and negative plays without leaving your defense vulnerable.

The presenter in the video is Scott Riley, Head Coach, Cleveland HS (NC)

The video is a portion of Coach Riley's clinic on Glazier Drive: Pressure Packages out of a Multiple 3-4 Defense for the Risk Adverse

Defense has Changed:
🏈Bend don't break; isn't a winning formula anymore.

🏈Can't defend it all against a well coached spread team. - They attack all parts of the field.

🏈Have to create negative plays & turnovers.

🏈 No one fears a conservative defense!

🏈Can not dictate to them unless they fear you.

🏈Take out aspects of their offense because you are willing to roll the dice.

Lower the Risk with Preparation

🏈  Is it sound?

  • Contained on both sides?
  • Can you cover behind it?
  • Does it take away their blitz answer?
  • What adjustments do the fly to players need to make if it is run on a pass blitz or pass on a run blitz?
  • Have you practiced these scenarios?

🏈 Attack Pass Protection vs. your front.

  • Big on Big
  • Zone
  • Combo
  • Fan
  • Empty
  • Run game. Know their rules.

🏈 Attack their weak links.

  • Who chases on the OL?
  • Does the RB Pass Pro well?
  • Who do they have to help?

🏈 Is it worth calling?

  • Does it create a turnover opportunity vs. the play you think is coming
  • Is it solid vs. their top plays?
