Do your receivers have a go to move that they know they can use to beat press coverage? Sean Anderson, Wide Receivers Coach, DC Defenders shows you 5 wide receiver releases.
The releases that you will see in the video are: Quick Swim, Slow Roll, Rip, and Crossover.
Coach Anderson's entire clinic on WR Teaching Progression & Basic Drills of WR Play is available on Glazier Drive.
Stance and start
- Exploding off the ball
- Head and eyes are up (to and through the defensive back)
- Always sell "Go." Never give the defender the idea that you are going to break off the route.
- Comfortable firm stance, hands in the ready position to be able to get into the drive phase.
- You can't spend a lot of time at the line of scrimmage.
A few of Coach Anderson's other coaching points for his receivers are:
- We have no egos. The group must understand that success for one is success for all.
- No excuses.
- Ask questions--no such thing as a dumb question.
- No one is above the team or the program.
- Respect each and every person who is associated with this program.
- If the ball is not thrown to you, take pride in blocking.
- Route knowledge--know the big picture.
