Establishing a physically dominant offensive line demands both a mentality and elite technique. Here are eight Inside Zone blocking drills to use to develop great technique.
The coach in the video is Nathan Brock, Offensive Analyst at Georgia Tech. He played Offensive Line as an athlete at Ohio State.
These offensive line drills and several others can be viewed on Glazier Drive. The presentation is on O-Line Run Game Calls, Variations, & Practice Periods for Inside Zone.
The epitome of offensive line play is moving your opponent against his will from point A to point B.
The drills in the video are:
🏈 Chutes and Boards: A good drill to work on footwork, pad level, and emphasize running off the ball. First step is gaining ground stepping over the board. Second step is going vertical and up field and through the crotch. Unlock and roll the hips as the lineman finishes the drill.
🏈 Leverage Sled: Violent hands, thumbs up, elbows together. Work both inside and outside footwork.
🏈 Single Block: Combination between the center and the front side guard. 2i on the guard. Linemen should be hip to hip. Center doesn't need to come off the block early to get to the backer
🏈 B Block: Backside combination on inside zone between the backside tackle and the backside guard.
🏈 Inside Zone Combos (Half Line): Example Single Block and B Block. Accelerate the feet on contact.
🏈 Inside Number Drive Block (Front side of Inside Zone): Left Tackle and Left Guard Man on inside number drive blocks. Center and right guard. Back side A Blocks. The center makes a "Gone" call.
🏈 Tar Front-Side: Block Tar line stunts. Same half side alignment.
