To stop the run, your defensive line has to be fundamentally and technically sound.  You can use these 7 drills to build a tenacious defensive line that will shut down your opponent's running game.

In the video below, Coach Jordan Gigli takes you through some of the fundamental drills he uses with the Defensive Linemen at Northern Illinois.

The excerpt is from his complete clinic, The Fundamental 5: Teaching Your D-Line to Stop the Run.  That entire clinic on The Fundamental 5: Teaching Your D-Line to Stop the Run is available only on Glazier Drive.

The Northern Illinois Fundamental 5

🏈Eyes: Aim Small, Miss Small
🏈Hands: Placement/Strike/Speed
🏈Hips: Flexibility/Power/Shovers
🏈Feet: Steps/Speed/In Flight Adjust
🏈Pad Level: Leverage/Finish Hands Above Eyes

Ball Get Off
🏈Go off movement (Ball or Man) not sound.  They don't listen to the cadence.
🏈Shove hips--Roll off front hands and push off both feet. Pinch the penny.  Going for a 1 yard knock off on all BGOs.
🏈Drill off of different stimuli: Foot, ball, coach twitch to train the eyes.  Defensive ends key their man and see the ball in the peripheral.
